Join Our Journey, Share Our Vision!

We are thrilled to extend a warm welcome to our newest viewers, and to all those who have been following the heartwarming story of Julia's Community. Whether you're new to our mission or have been with us since the beginning, we're delighted to have you on board.

At Julia's Community, our purpose is to make a profound impact on the lives of individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). We firmly believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to live a life filled with purpose, growth, and community, and it is with this belief that we embark on our journey.

It starts with a university. A campus is much like a small town. It has opportunities for a typical individual to receive an education and employment and to enjoy recreation & entertainment. Julia’s Community is a transformative concept that allows individuals with I/DD to live, learn, and earn at a university. From inclusive preschools to adult activities, permanent housing to employment opportunities, and postsecondary education.

Julia’s Community flagship location at Wingate University has opened up exciting possibilities, bringing our vision to life on campus and integrating individuals with I/DD into a thriving academic environment. This collaboration redefines what's possible for those who have, for too long, been marginalized.

The inclusive preschool serves all children, with or without disabilities, in an environment that allows them to thrive.

Bob and Lori Spence, driven by their daughter Julia's journey, have shown us that even in the face of profound challenges, we can create a world where opportunities flourish. Their steadfast dedication to this mission serves as a beacon of inspiration for all of us, as Bob and Lori strive to establish not just one but multiple communities that embody inclusive excellence. Julia’s Community Executive Director, Michelle Lancaster, has extensive experience in human services from two of NC’s largest counties and is the proud mother of a teen-age son with Down Syndrome. She has a passion for seeing communities where her son could live and thrive. Michelle is currently working with multiple colleges and universities, preparing to launch on additional campuses.

We need your help to make this vision a reality. Your ideas, resources, and willingness to collaborate can truly transform the lives of individuals with I/DD and their families. Together, we'll amplify our message and craft a more inclusive world. Your support will propel us into new territories, enabling us to achieve even greater milestones. Connect with us, spread our story, and let's explore collaborative possibilities. Your support and involvement will be the driving force behind making our dream a universal reality. Thank you for being a part of our journey, and we look forward to sharing more updates, stories, and successes with you in the future.
