Big News: Wingate University Honored for Inclusion

This is a moment worth celebrating. Julia’s Community was recently featured in a PBS segment highlighting changemakers across the Charlotte region. The story shines a light on the impact of immersive programs that create real opportunities for individuals with disabilities to experience college life in new and meaningful ways.

From second chances to discovering hidden potential, the feature captures exactly what makes this community so special—and why it matters.

Be sure to watch the video included and see the impact in action.

Walking for a Cause: Pink Together Steps for All

Our campus was filled with purpose during the 2nd Annual Pink Together Steps for All Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Special Olympics athletes from UDI and Forest Hills High School joined together to walk the Promenade and the Quad—raising awareness and funds for Go Jen Go.

The day was a powerful reminder of what happens when community shows up for something bigger than itself.

Special Olympics Spring Games at Wingate

Wingate University proudly hosted the Special Olympics of Union County Spring Games this April.

Across two days, more than 600 athletes competed in track and field events, joined by families, volunteers, and supporters from across the community. Our students played an important role as volunteers—helping run events, support athletes, and create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Dominating on the Court: Unified Basketball

Our students have also been making serious noise on the court—competing in a Unified Basketball team and absolutely dominating.

Through teamwork, determination, and pure love for the game, they continue to showcase what inclusion in sports truly looks like. Every game is more than just a win—it’s confidence building, friendships growing, and barriers being broken.

Because of You, This Is Possible
