Rev. Ken Fuquay

Board Member

We are thrilled to introduce our new board member, Reverend Ken Fuquay, whose story is a testament to resilience, personal growth, and a deep commitment to amplifying the voices of those society considers to be the 'least' and the 'last.' His genuine commitment, leadership in the field, shared vision, community-building experience, and network make him a critical asset to Julia's Community. His presence will contribute significantly to our mission of providing comprehensive support and opportunities to individuals with I/DD, furthering our goal of creating an inclusive and empowering college campus community.

Ken Fuquay, inspired by his parents' altruism while growing up in a pastor's home in Asheboro, NC, embarked on a successful career in broadcasting, owning the Carolina School of Broadcasting and leading the North Carolina Association of Career Colleges and Schools. His life took a transformative turn when he encountered guest preacher Dr. Rodney Sadler, leading him to pursue ministry at UPSem-Charlotte, earning two master's degrees. Now, as an ordained Minister of Word & Sacrament, he plays a pivotal role in establishing and pastoring M2M Charlotte, a new church plant under the 1001 New Worshipping Communities initiative.

Ken's journey emphasizes that every life experience prepares us for our purpose. He not only serves as a pastor but also as the President and CEO of LIFESPAN Services, a prominent nonprofit in North Carolina. LIFESPAN's mission centers on providing education, employment, and enrichment opportunities for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) across various age groups.

LIFESPAN, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, operates a wide array of programs and services designed to support individuals with I/DD at every stage of life. This holistic approach, which includes adult day campuses, early learning centers, group homes, and more, ensures that individuals receive comprehensive care and opportunities for personal growth. Ken's involvement with LIFESPAN exemplifies his dedication to fostering the well-being and development of those with I/DD, symbolizing a genuine commitment to creating a meaningful and enduring influence on their lives, as well as their parents and caregivers.

As a key player in the sector, we feel incredibly fortunate to have Ken join our board at Julia’s Community. Together, we share a vision of responding to the call to establish an inclusive college campus community that offers educational, employment, and enrichment opportunities for everyone. His leadership and experience will undoubtedly contribute to the comprehensive support and opportunities we aim to provide to individuals with I/DD, further enhancing our mission.
